MV Cable Test at Phelps Dodge
posted on 16 Aug 2011 23:16 by electromacnetistI started the day with examining the test procedure for the actual test in late morning.
The test lab is also possesed of Phelps Dodge's plant at Bangplee, Samutprkarn.
After the equipment setting, the operator displayed our an eclipse and graph in the monitor, which be able to inform usefuls data.
The first run is the partial discharge test.
They began with the calibrating by assumming a setting value of 10 pC and then tracked this number.
The cable then gradually be increased the voltage from 0.0 kV to 12 kV rated.
The display showed no sign of exceeding above 10 pC, therefore this PD test passed.

Next is the voltage test.
They kept increasing voltage to 40 kV for a 3.5 times rated test.
The cable,of course ,passed this test too, by there's nothing position of breaking.
The last one is the resistance test.
They used a meter to check if the cable's resistance complied with the IEC standard at 0.028 ohm/km.
This test result was 0.027 ohm/km.
All passed.
This cable and another (include LV cable) wi ll be apllied for the HMC project.
